A Harley’s Second Life: A Tribute to Service, Brotherhood, and Hope
Originally purchased in 1994 by a Vietnam Veteran and retired Police Officer from Southern California, this Harley-Davidson was a loyal companion for over 66,000 miles. But in 2010, after the owner suffered a stroke, the bike was tucked away in his garage, unridden and unmaintained for more than 13 years. Though he was no longer able to ride or wrench, he held onto the Harley with the hope that one day he’d recover enough to feel the wind again.
In November 2023, with heavy heart but resolute spirit, he reached out to Guardian Garage, having come to terms with the fact that he would never ride again. He wanted his beloved bike to find new purpose — to serve a cause close to his heart: helping veterans and first responders, the very people with whom he shared a life of service.
Now, this Harley is getting a second chance.
At Guardian Garage, we’ve taken on the bike as a full restoration and transformation project within our program. After experimenting with a few mock-ups, we’re leaning toward a sportster style as a tribute to Harley Davidson and our program. The bike has been completely disassembled, and nearly every piece of chrome has been powder-coated black — a special thanks to Affordable Powder Coating in Phoenix for their support.
The engine and transmission have been fully rebuilt with parts generously provided by V-Twin: www2.vtwinning.com, breathing new life into this machine.
We’re also adding some custom touches to the fenders and lighting — details that will make this one-of-a-kind build truly stand out.
Once complete, this reimagined Harley will be either raffled or auctioned to raise funds in support of Guardian Garage’s mission: empowering veterans and first responders through hands-on mechanical training, community, and purpose.
